Solid Film Lubricant

Solid film lubricant is a permanent, high-performing lubricant for demanding applications. This process performs well in elevated pressures and temperatures where the use of grease is prohibited.

K&L Plating provides a durable solid film lubricant that works great in applications where liquid lubricants can’t be used. Our film adds protection against wear, corrosion, and soil. Our customers often request this solid film in order to reduce friction, galling, and seizing.

The K&L Plating Advantage

No matter the size of the order, K&L Plating produces reliable outcomes on every order, as all our films and coatings meet rigorous military and ASTM specifications.

Why Choose Solid Film Lubricant?

Solid film lubricant is a thin coating that bonds to a substrate. When cured, it provides permanent lubrication, reducing friction along the surface. Solid film lubricant is used in high and low temperature environments, where liquid lubricants would freeze or evaporate. It also works great in uses that demand a greater level of resistance to soil and water.

The Solid Film Process

Before we apply a solid film lubricant, we will first clean and prepare to your substrate. This pre-treatment process includes degreasing, blasting, and passivation (if necessary). Next, the treatment process involves applying the coating through spraying, brushing, or dipping. The coating needs to cure by air drying, ensuring a high-quality, permanent lubricant. We handle this entire process internally, with QA to make sure the coating meets your specs.

RoHS-Compliant

All of our plating and coating processes can conform to RoHS standards for environmentally-safer chemicals. If your application requires RoHS or any additional compliance standards in your industry, let us know and we can adjust our process to meet your needs.
