Zinc Plating

Zinc plating forms a protective exterior barrier for iron, steel, or metal substrate. This plating is an economical way to provide corrosion resistance. K&L Plating provides zinc plating for iron, copper, brass, and steel substrates. This durable finish is used by a variety of industries to economically extend a part’s service life.

The K&L Plating Advantage

No matter the size of the order, K&L Plating produces reliable outcomes on every order, as all our films and coatings meet rigorous military and ASTM specifications.

Why Choose Zinc Plating?

Zinc plating acts as a sacrificial coating for your metal — it is designed to corrode instead of your metal substrate. This provides a higher level of corrosion resistance than bare metal, and in a more attractive appearance than galvanization. By adding chromates and sealers, we can extend the amount of protection our zinc plating provides. Our customers choose zinc plating for its appealing finish, rust prevention, and affordable cost.

Common Plating Applications

  • Fasteners
  • Weldments
  • Steel Assemblies
  • Machine Parts

The Zinc Plating Process

Our zinc plating process utilizes both trivalent and hexavalent chromates as chemical conversion agents. Supplemental treatments can change the color of the finish, while adding additional corrosion protection. If necessary, we bake the material after plating, in order to alleviate hydrogen and avoid hydrogen embrittlement in the metal.

RoHS-Compliant

All of our plating and coating processes can conform to RoHS standards for environmentally-safer chemicals. If your application requires RoHS or any additional compliance standards in your industry, let us know and we can adjust our process to meet your needs.
